This is a community site devoted to networking. More specifically, it is a community for people who believe that effective networking doesn't mean being sleazy or pushy!

Non-Toxic Networking was published in March of 2008, and was inspired by the business owners that helped the author realize that she was not the only one that could use emotional bonds and meaningful connections to sign more clients, and make more friends.

Referrals come to those that give. Non-Toxic Networking teaches you to give, without giving too much. Boundaries, icebreakers, and advice are all given with a dash of humor and a pound of common sense.

If you're scared to network, if you don't like "selling" or if you have a hundred other reasons why you can't talk to people....let Non-Toxic Networking show you how to do it in a way that won't make you feel like you've sold your soul and gone to the dark side.

We take your fear of becoming a used car salesman, and help you become a master of conversation and follow-up.

Networking Blog is Live!

I'm taking a minute from explaining how the book has been delayed because the person I hired to format it did it incorrectly so the proof looked unprofessional and i have to have it redone. Well it is redone, I just have to add the index. I plan on doing it myself, because really I have the worst luck! If I ask you to work for me, just say no. You will either have some horrible family emergency, or you will get sick, or you will not know how to do what I ask. Because, and I'm not kidding, it h… Continue

Drowning? Yes, but in a good way!

Now that we've got the digital download all ready and selling well...the next task was to get together and order the proof copy of the paperback version of Non-Toxic Networking. I took care of that last week and received the proof in the mail on Saturday. Let me tell you something - if you have been considering publishing a book but haven't gotten around to it yet, holding a physical book in your hands is one of the most amazing experiences I've ever had. Smelling that book, knowing you did t… Continue

Launches aren't as easy as they look!

The marketing plan in place, the seminar all scheduled... It mostly went off without a hitch. Except for the quality of the seminar audio. For some reason, the online seminar room wasn't buffering correctly...or something. I don't know if the recording sounds better, I hope it does. If it does not sound any better, the only plausable option is to re-record it myself and then use Camtasia to record the presentation. Then it can go on YouTube, and once it is hosted on YouTube I can display it… Continue

That Client Thing (aka I made a bad decision)

As most of you know, I don’t take clients anymore. Well, I have clients, but there is a layer in between me and the client – the editor. My love for the editor is something I cannot express in mere words. I would need to break out in song and do an interpretive dance in [...]

Why Kids Need to Get Out of the Chicago Public School System

Here in Chicago we have State Senators. One such State Senator is also a loud, opinionated minister (no surprise there) and sometimes, as in this case, they have ideas that are absolutely genius. The Chicago Public Schools aren’t doing too well. They are (for the most part) unsafe, way under-funded, and overall a scary place [...]

On Sudden Weight Loss (no diet tips inside)

We were at my grandmother’s house last weekend. Note: My great-grandmother is 93 – we go there a lot – you know, I want to make sure I visited her within one week in case she dies. It’s a guilt thing. I grew up listening to her tell me she wished she spent more time with [...]

Everyday Networker

Everyone’s an Expert at Something (HARO)

One of the keys to successful networking is sharing what you now. Now, sharing what you know with people who want to hear it just got a whole lot easier. Everyone knows that the best way to get your name out there and be known as an expert (which helps just as much with a [...]

The Power of Networking is…

The power of networking is located right past the fear of talking to strangers and a little to the left of figuring out your elevator speech. The power of networking – the true power – is in your goal. Networking can get you a husband or wife as easily as it can get you a [...]

Therapists Networking

It can be tough. You say you’re a therapist and suddenly people are afraid to talk to you in a public networking place. No one wants other people to think they’re crazy, and the fashion of everyone having a therapist had its peak in the late 80s and early 90s. Or worse, people think you [...]

Fun Friday: Compliment Someone

This weekend, just for fun, find someone to compliment. Feeling frisky? See how many people you can complement over the weekend. Don’t try to get anything out of anyone or make a sale (unless it just happens) this is just for the practice of talking to strangers! Share This
